hey guys, i just did an update for OBS to version 31.0.0. now when i open OBS, it instantly closes. below is a link to the crash report and i have also uploaded the file:

Crash 2024-12-07 14-30-38

the ONLY way i can get OBS to stay open is if i close my Twitch stream info dock (like stream title, category, etc.) as soon as it opens.

if i can get OBS to stay open and not close, if i try clicking on "Settings" or switching scenes it closes or crashes.

can anyone help me out?

also:

if i try opening OBS in safe mode it also closes right away.

the one time i tried running it as admin, i got the attached image.

I'm also having the same problem when updating to version 31.0.0 and cannot figure out what is making it crash. Here are a few crash logs

The latest update seems to be incompatible with windows.

A hot fix is needed.....

I have tried all the solutions on the interwebs....

even uninstalled and clean installed obs.....

and it still crashes every time you hit live button.....
it ether crashs the monitors, the graphics cards, windows file explorer, or obs itself crashs...
this reqauires a total computer shut down followed by a turn-back on and then restart..... for programs to actual run....

I also noticed in the latest version the key binding shortcuts system is now broken
you used to be able to set the same key for start and stop, play and pauses and other actions....

I'm sorry but i like my double tap a single key for quick actions....... bring back the single-press keys.
don't be a o school computer elitist....

not every buddy can memorize 40 billion keyboard shortcuts......

don't be a tool like Steam and attach a program to run as Windows File Explorer.exe.....
seriously if that crashs you have to force reboot your PC ... and that's not good for the health or life of a computer....
when you can't do it the proper way....

it's like rolling the dice for me right now. i finally have OBS up, but that's like after 32 crashes with all sorts of different crash reports showing different things causing the crash. if i close OBS, i know it'll be crash after crash until i finally get an instance where it's up. even then, i've had a few instances where it crashes after 5mins.

OBS 31... UPDATE:
IN ORDER TO GET A functioning OBS 31.

you have to either clean and install it from the website launcher
or do an admin overwrite the install: again from the obs website launcher / installer

The obs updater from with in obs corrupts some of the files.....

dont forget to defrag then reboot afterward (also check plugs)....
and check for hidden Windows updates. (just advice to keep it from breaking)

Its needs a hotfix badly. game capture broke again. its no capturing Steam-launched games examples. let it die....
crashs on capturing the game over thrown....

pretty sure this is the case with almost all obs updates.. always having semi manually install the updates UGH

repost because i found another thread...

tried installing as admin and still have crashes upon opening and the dice rolling for the chance of having OBS stay open.

i don't think it's the twitch stream info dock causing the issue. i know in my original post i said i could get OBS to stay open by closing it, but now even it with open, sometimes OBS continues to run. so closing it lead to a false positive in terms of a solution.

what i do notice is when OBS stays open, there are instances where clicking "Settings" will cause a crash. attached is a crash report from today showing this. specifically this part in the crash report:

000000F2F9FB04B0 00007FF6BFBA872B 0000027B76AB6440 000000F2F9FCA6F0 0000027B243E6720 0000000000000000 obs64.exe!Ui_OBSBasicSettings::setupUi+0x1c77b
000000F2F9FCA510 00007FF6BFBEF5F8 8000002200000000 0000000000000000 00000000000000A1 0000000400000000 obs64.exe!OBSBasicSettings::OBSBasicSettings+0x398
000000F2F9FCA670 00007FF6BFB3D6BB 0000000000000080 00000000000000A1 0000000000000000 0000027B2448FD00 obs64.exe!OBSBasic::on_action_Settings_triggered+0xab
000000F2F9FCAAB0 00007FF6BFCEDDD5 0000000000000000 00000000000000A1 000000F2F9FCB020 0000000000000000 obs64.exe!OBSBasic::qt_static_metacall+0x1705
000000F2F9FCAE30 00007FF6BFCF01D3 0000000000000000 000000F2F9FCAF69 0000000000000007 0000027B245FA090 obs64.exe!OBSBasic::qt_metacall+0x43

i think that's pointing out that i clicked "Settings" right before the crash.

there are instances where it will work "fine" and i can access settings, switch scenes, etc. but getting to that point requires a lot of crashes and closes upon starting.

Like I mentioned on Reddit, have you tried uninstalling a couple of your oldest plugins to see what happens? I mean plugins that haven't had updates in the longest period of time.

yup, removed all plugins that are not in the plugins folder when you install OBS. still same issue.

edit:

right now, i'm just trying to get OBS to stay open. if i break an effect on a scene, i'll figure out another way to do it later... why i have effectively removed all plugins.

Some plugins left files inside %appdata%\obs-studio\ which keeps interacting with OBS.
After manually removing this files it's always advised to uninstall and reinstall OBS in case any of this plugins have changed other things inside OBS.

Of course, backup backup backup. I mean, scene collections and profiles.
The crash is on a windows process. This could be due to an outdated windows. Make sure windows is updated.
Also, a log file is more than helpful on this case.

!!!update!!!

this may only be for me, but i think i may have solved my issue(?). i am now able to open and close OBS without crashes. i went through everything and saw that on one of the filters for my "Mic/Aux" in "Audio Mixer", i used NVIDIA noise suppression (NVIDIA audio effects). but it wasn't listed as how i added it. there was an "_" and something after it.

i removed the filter and the crashes stopped. i wish i screenshotted it, but it was just something that looked off to me, so i removed it without thinking of taking a screenshot.

before that, i went through all my scenes and sources and removed anything extraneous (ex: things i set to not be visible). this took a lot of time because of the aforementioned crashes.

after that, was when i went through my audio mixer and started looking at filters or anything extra i added to sources there, which lead to the nvidia filter i added to my "Mic/Aux".

before all of that though, i DID remove any and all plugins.

it was a lot of work and putting up with crashes to find what was causing them.

and if anyone is curious, i do have the latest nvidia drivers installed (i think they released updated studio drivers yesterday).

for anyone else having crashes with 31.0.0.. it could be filters in the audio mixer. my crash notes did not specifically list audio, but after going through everything else, that's where i eventually ended up.

Greetings! obs does not work for me at all after updating Windows.

…tried to reinstall - nothing. deleted all plugins - nothing. deleted obs and all files - nothing works again.

I start a clean obs, try to add my capture card and it crashes…wtf?)

@whoisMAKS make your own thread because you may have different issue. Describe step by step what you doing (how to reproduce the issue) and attach your log from the same session where problem present.
