Question / Help OBS crashes whole computer (memory leak?)

Looking at your specs on the system, it looks like your system RAM is a limiting factor. If I am reading your linked info correctly you have 2 GB (2048 MB) RAM.

I have a Lenovo X220 with 8 GB (8192 MB) RAM. OBS performs adequately with a Core i5 2520M in most cases. On some games or certain apps the load on the CPU for my system is a weak link as it is a Second Gen Core i5. At work I am running a 4th Gen Core i7 with 16 GB RAM and see no performance issues or crashes running OBS.

Your system is running a 4th Gen Core i5 so it is in the same generation as my work system. My GPU at work is the same nVidia GTX 960 and it looks as though the on board GPU is the same an Intel 4600.

I would certainly consider beefing up the system RAM. If you have not checked also update GPU drivers as these can have an impact. I have noticed that on my laptop running the 64 bit version helps a little with performance but again it is showing its age.

I would offload processing to the GPU since you have 2: nVidia GTX 960 and Intel HD 4600. I assume here you are not using both. I use both of my GPUs at work running a 4 monitor system but still leverage the GPU encoding options in OBS.

The OP is running the 32bit version of OBS which limits the memory usage of the executable to 2GB. The 64bit executable has a much higher limit.

I was about to say that, I have 8gb ram total, didn't know 32 bit version limited that (and I didn't even know I was running that one) will try with 64 bit one to see if that is the problem.

Thanks for the replies!
