Question / Help OBS Crashes when trying to record with H264 ACV

Hi guys!

As the title says, I'm having issues with getting OBS to record. Previously, recording with OBS was no issue but my motherboard recently broke and I replaced it with a new one. After doing a clean install of Windows, I updated my drivers to the latest version and when trying to record with OBS, it crashes as soon as I click "Start Recording" or "Start Replay Buffer". Essentially, recording with H264 used to work for me just fine in my previous setup but now it doesn't.

I am on the latest version of Windows 10, 64 bit, build 1803. I have an AMD RX480 and my driver version is 18.8.1. OBS is 64 bit version 21.1.2.

I have tried some older driver versions and have also used DDU to do clean installs. I have also tried reinstalling OBS and have seen no improvements.

I imagine I'm missing something obvious. Any help is appreciated in advance!

Don't use the AMD encoder for now, use x264.

Well I've already tried x264 before even making this post and it worked but isn't it worse to use?

x264 offers better quality per bitrate, and given that the AMD encoder is not dedicated chips on your video card, it's also less likely to overload your video card.
