OBS changes audio quality when I open it

How to use 44.1KHz on OBS with BT microphone? I do not have audio input on my Intel NUC.
If at all possible, don't. Even cheap USB is better. BT mics are pretty much designed for phone calls, and not much more.

As I said earlier in this thread:
Bluetooth *anything*, really, is often a bad idea.

And wireless in general is much more of a liability than a wire is, even if you get a "professional" wireless mic or in-ear monitor that runs at a different radio frequency. There's just no way to *guarantee* that something won't interfere with it.

Hey, (in windows 11) you can fix this, by going to setting/system/sound/input/"BLUETOOTH_MICROPHONE" (Click The ">" in the right side) - Chose "Do NOT allow windows to use this microphone/input device" - After that OBS, wont change the quality - Only problem - You CAN NOT use the bluetooth microphone as your recording device.

Hope it helped :)

Right so I also made an account to give you a thanks. You should be proud of how much you've driven OBS Studio forum user registration!

How the F*** did this garbage advice help anyone!? Are you all insane!? Why the F*** would you want to disable your bluetooth microphone to not be able to record audio? That is pretty much the entire point of having a headset! This does not help. What I want to know is why the hell every time I open the OBS software the audio turns to s***. As far as I can tell, some a******** programmer at OBS created a few hidden obstacles to make the software inconvenient that you have to hunt down and find. People who do stuff like that should be incarcerated for being destructive to civilization and abusing technology. Where can I buy some software to not have to contend with the trolls who cannot create anything except ways to interfere with creators to make their work more difficult?

I created an account just to rebuke all of you who said this problem was solved.

It's not advice to use a BT mic or headset. It's a workaround for those who MUST use a BT headset. It's bluetooth itself that is the problem, not OBS. If you can use anything other than bluetooth, DO!!

You have a BT mic configured *somewhere* in your OBS configuration. Look around and dig for it; there are several places it could be hiding, all of which are useful for somebody to have it there. Once you no longer have it, and OBS is no longer asking for it - restart OBS to be sure, and maybe the entire computer to be extra sure - and no other program is asking for it either - restart after fixing them too - then the headset can stay in the higher-quality speaker-only mode.

Or, you can disable access to it as above, so anything that asks for it just gets denied. Then you don't have to chase down every one of them.

If anything at all is asking for the mic - OBS or anything else - and it's allowed per above, then the entire bluetooth headset switches to the poor-quality speaker+mic mode. Again, that's a BLUETOOTH thing, NOT OBS. You either get high-quality speaker-only on bluetooth, or poor-quality speaker+mic. Pick one. That's just how bluetooth works, and anything that uses it inherits that limitation.

And again, if you can use anything other than bluetooth for your mic and headphones, DO!! That's where the problem is - not the headset, but bluetooth itself - and not OBS or any other app.

Don't beat people up for your own misunderstanding. :-)

I found a workaround. Change the Mic/Aux to something else. Then I can still use my mic in Zoom, Teams, etc...just not for recording in OBS. Which I don't do anyway.

So if you use OBS to send video to a conferencing service using Virtual Camera, and you have this issue, make sure the conferencing system is using the proper mic and change OBS so it isn't trying to use a Bluetooth microphone. Best of both worlds, and you don't have to change any global Windows settings.
This is the true answer. I created an account to thank you!

Disabling access to bluetooth input in OBS stops it from interfering with audio output. It was causing all sorts of issues, not just with audio quality but muffling, skipping, etc.

Thank you for the suggestion. One potential solution could involve blocking a specific device (such as a BT headset) from OBS in particular. I attempted to implement this by modifying the registry, but as I'm not an expert in this area, I encountered challenges. Nonetheless, I wanted to share this idea in case someone with more expertise can develop a solution. Cheers for considering this approach.
So probably people using the BT headset for other apps Would still don't have to undo the settings each time!

The Windows setting fix didnt work for me. If someone else needs this resolved, this ended up working for me instead. In OBS Settings, under Audio, Set all Global Audio Mic Devices to "Disabled"

Whenever I open OBS, it changes the audio quality of whatever I'm listening to--before I'm even streaming or recording. It never used to do this before updating to Windows 11. Is anyone else experiencing muffled audio quality as soon as OBS is open or know how to fix it?
I discovered a solution if you're using Mac. It's pretty straight forward.

Similar to Windows, you just need to change your input device. You can do that by opening the Audio Midi Setup app.

Then, you can right click on an alternative input device > Use This Device For Audio Input

Hope it helps someone!
