Hey, guys. I just downloaded OBS, installed some VSTplugins. In the source window I have video capture, display capture, Audio input capture, Audio output capture, window capture and Media Source. Without OBS turned on my audio is fine. But when I turn it on I get a terrible feedback from my speakers. I thought it happened when I had my mic on but it does it when it's off as well. My video camera (Logitech USB type) does not have an audio capture on it so that is why I am using the Audio input and output sources. Also, it's because I am using a mixer. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Feedback also happens if you capture some audio device with OBS, and this audio is at the same time played back by OBS with the monitoring functionality and gets to the same device it is captured again. Direct feedback is inhibited by OBS, but it isn't able to detect longer loops and audio chains, for example if there is an additional external mixer in between or mixing plugin of some software.

Aahhhm. Maybe to much capturing? =D
At least you mentioned "output capture" which means that you capture some output back again into the mixer. Depends what you captured. Proof if all that capturings are needed really. There may be a loop even without mic.
Additional hint: Sourcing window-capture and display-capture at once may have side effects worsen for obs.

Update:
Regarding external mixer. Do you route back the output or monitoring output of obs into that mixer? Could loop there, if not clearly detached or detoured to other busses.

Hi, guys. All good questions and answers. Let me tell you what I have. PC with a Xoner Soundcard. Mackie mixer 1202 VLZ3. Main out from the mixer to the Mic-in on the card. Headphone out from the card to channel 1 and 2 on the mixer. Microphone is on Mic-in channel 4 on the mixer. Phantom power is on for one mic, off for a different one. Currently it is off while using a Shure 85 mic. Channel 1/2/4 are on but all others are off.

In the Advanced Audio Settings it shows the Mic/Aux as Active, tracks 1 and 2 checked. When I turn on Audio Monitoring I get the feedback. It's super loud. I unplugged the Mics from the mixer and unplugged the Logitech camera, but I get the feedback anyway. My computer settings are ok and everything works great when I don't have OBS on.
Don't I need that audio monitoring on to hear what I am saying in the OBS or to hear changes I make with audio plugins?
I noticed that even if I unplug the mics from the mixer and unplug the Logitech camera it still shows a 25% sound reading from the Audio Mixer window in OBS. I can't imagine where that is coming from.

There exactly is your loop: monitoring out to channels 1+2. They are on as you say. So they get into obs back again. Then, if and when you turn on the monitoring function, the loop is closed. Totally independent from further microphones, as you said.
You have to break that loop strongly. I assume that you looped out the xoner into the mixer for having playback of videos or something? Then there are two possibilites:
- Use another way to monitor, routed straight to headphones and nothing else.
- To surrender let the loopback into mixer 1+2 away. Route pc internal playbacks only via the obs audio mixer into the sending rail.
If you have to sound reinforce the playback into the room only, fade down channels 1+2 on the mainbus and use a prefader aux way to your p.a.
You could have that inverted: All that should be able to hear in the room/p.a. goes by mainbus to your speakers. Build up a (sub-)mix on one aux-way and route this mixers output into the xoner.

I thought about that so I had the monitoring go out to one of my video monitors. I got no feedback. But I didn't get any sound at all. I'll keep playing with it. Something has to work.
Ok, So I plugged the output directly into my computer instead of the mixer and no longer get the feedback. I do have a delay in hearing myself, but, I guess I'll figure that one out. At least, for now, I have a place to start figuring out how to use this program. I seems pretty cool. Thanks to everyone who participated. I really appreciate it.
