Question / Help OBS audio delay

So for awhile now my stream has been having about a 1 second audio delay on all in game sounds, I've finally stopped just hoping it would go away and am now seeking assistance.

Well I seems to have solved it with the "Force desktop audio to use video timestamps as a base for audio time" option, I would still like to know why I had a delay in the first place though.
