OBS 30.2.3 - OBS Closes w/o Error Message, No Crash Logs

Recently (as of September 22, 2024), I am having issues with OBS closing randomly, typically anywhere from 5-10 minutes upon opening. It closes both when trying to go live and when just staying open. I last streamed on September 21, 2024, and the problem arose within the following 2 days. I was updated to OBS 30.2.3 when it worked and when I started to experience issues.

I do not receive an error message, nor are crash logs generated. I am prompted to start OBS in safety mode when re-opening, however.

I tested whether plugins were the issue (I use Spout2 for VTubeStudio and Stream Deck), but removing the plugins did not fix the issue. As a result, I decided to do a full wipe of OBS from my PC and reinstalled fresh. The problem persisted. I (stupidly) did not save logs from before I wiped, but I've attached the logs I've accumulated since the fresh install. (Apologies that some are just from me opening and closing OBS.) Analyzer didn't show any issues and all forum posts close to mine I found did not help, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

Other notes:
  • Updated all drivers.
  • HAGS is disabled
  • Task manager has not shown any spikes or issues -- usage looks similar to when it was working.
PC Specs:
  • Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900KF 3.00 GHz
  • installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
  • System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Bios Version 1.13.0
  • Microsoft Windows 11 Home (64-bit)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, Game Ready Driver version 561.09
  • Intel Killer Performance Suit Updated to v35.24.5378
  • Storage: NVMe PC801 NVMe SK hynix 2TB

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if you need any more information and, if possible, where I would be able to find such information as I'm not particularly tech savvy.

I wonder if McAfee is playing a part? Set-up looks pretty good over-all.

Other than that, have you tested your CPU since the problems started? Gen 13 & 14 are prone to failure.

Hi! Thank you for your response.

I've had McAfee as my antivirus since I started using this PC over a year ago, and it never posed a problem and I haven't changed any features. Do you think something might have changed and it's interfering with running OBS?

Also, I checked my CPU with HWiNFO64 and did the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool 64bit. (I also updated my BiOS!)
The results for the IPDT were all a pass, and I did not notice any issues on HWiNFO64 when testing, running my PC normally, or with OBS open. Also, there wasn't anything that stuck out in HWiNFO64 when OBS closes. Are there other things I should use to test my CPU to see if it being faulty is the cause of my current issues?

Thanks again, and sorry for asking more questions!

Maybe, hard to say but that's not an app that should be used on a Performance PC.

Cool, sounds like you're on it. Intel has a testing app if you want to give that one a try. I think they require it be used if an RMA needs to be issued.

Some other things.
On a few of these logs output resolution is 424x240?

HDR is enabled on monitor 2, not sure if you are aware of that.

Uninstalling McAfee did not help OBS, but it did help my computer in general so thank you for that tip!

And I did use the Intel testing app and that also said everything was fine, so I'm not sure on that front at this moment, either.

And yes, when I reinstalled OBS fresh, it auto set my output resolution to that, which was bizarre, so I changed it back to what it was previously. And thank you for reminding me about HDR on monitor 2! I didn't realize I only changed it on monitor 1.

I'm going to attach the more recent logs to this post as well just for posterity sake! These are from me testing OBS after making changes.

Most of the other logs you posted were complete but OBS was opening & closing immediately.

These new logs are all truncated. Have you tried a new Profile? 1 Scene / 1 Source?

OBS Installation missing any files? Help > Check File Integrity

I would also remove any remaining plugins while troubleshooting.

Just an settings update/optimization, not a solution.

22:00:37.096: Game DVR: On > Off

I'm not sure if things have changed since Killer is now owned by Intel. But I used to have a Killer 2400 NIC on an old system & the Suite couldn't be used with OBS. I used to run a generic driver on that system.

Examples of network software interfering with normal performance include:
  • Lenovo Vantage
  • Killer NIC's firewall

Hi! I'm so sorry for the late responses! I ended up falling ill over the weekend and am just getting a chance to take a look at your messages.

This seems to have stopped my OBS from randomly closing from what I can tell (at least within the first 30 minutes of it being open, which is a marked improvement from it closing every 4 minutes), so I'm assuming that it's likely one of my sources that was causing OBS to randomly close. I'm not sure how I didn't think of that at first, so I'll slowly go through all my old sources one by one and see which one causes OBS to randomly close.

Thank you for all the help with trouble-shooting. The other things you noticed and pointed out were super helpful to me and ending up fixing some problems I was having with other programs, so I appreciate them equally as much!

YW! Yeah, that's an easy TS step to see if something went of the tracks, were you able to find it or was the profile just bugged?
