Bug Report OBS 23 crashes on record or stream with Quicksync, after upgrade

After upgrading from 22 to 23, every time I press the record or stream button, OBS will crash immediately when using Quicksync.

I have tested old nvenc, new nvenc, and x264 and they were fine. This only started happening after upgrading from 22 to 23.

Since the driver worked perfectly fine in v22, then what changed that would make it faulty now?

Your link says to "roll back your drivers to prior than Nov 2018". The latest drivers for my aging chipset are from 2015, so I don't think they should be affected.

I have an Nvidia card, and am using the quicksync that is built in to the integrated gpu, so that might be an unusual configuration. As I mentioned previously, it was working perfectly fine with OBS version 22.0.2

Edit: This seems to be the relevant error "11:02:07.749: [qsv encoder: 'msdk_impl'] Unsupported configurations, parameters, or features (MFX_ERR_UNSUPPORTED)"

I have reconfirmed that quicksync recording/streaming still works with obs 22.0.2. This seems to be either a bug In 23.x or, if it is a bug in QSV, it's one that didn't affect v22.

It seems I will have to fall back to the older OBS version if I want to use QSV, for now.

Someone else reported an this same crash on IRC almost a day ago, it hasn't been fixed in the hotfix, but they say replacing the qsv11 dll from the previous version of OBS fixes the crashing.

But in doing so, you lose any new additions made to quicksync in the update
if you want to do this in the meantime while the problem is sorted out, you can find the file here

I replaced the DLLs with the ones from 22.0.2 and it works fine for me now. Here are the DLLs in case anybody else is having the same issues. They are located in obs-studio\obs-plugins\64bit.

What about the pdb files? leave them as-is or replace them too?

They are just debugging files, you don't really need them as such, they only help for debugging
