Is this computer unable of streaming? Reason cause hardware way too old?

Thank you for your time.

Your hardware is too old and your GPU does not support DirectX 10.1 or 11, which is cause for it to crash.

You need a COMPLETE overhaul. How do you... even... game? O_O.

Videophile

Elgato
  • Full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0
  • PCI video card with 256 MB of 128-bit memory
Damn dude, you not only need to upgrade your CPU, but your GPU.

My honest recommendation: Buy a new PC.

His CPU can't upgrade without a new mobo anyway, and his GPU doesn't do DX10 or later for current-gen OBS. And OBS multiplatform is written in the DX11 API, so people with older intel iGPUs and older GPUs (anything prior to AMD's 5000 series or nVidia's 400 series) wouldn't even be able to launch it, unless OpenGL compatibility goes backwards, but I've no way to test that since my 280M using machine won't boot.

In other words, "needing a new PC" is a gross understatement. He can't even get pretty old second hand parts to save on cash or anything. He's gonna need current-gen hardware.

gtx 260 would still be working but those cards have pretty slow gddr3 vram which causes bottlenecking on the data throughput the result is huge problems with the encoded framerate even though you have no real issues ingame 540p30 being some sort of max settings

theres no way around other then buying new hardware

I'm not sure exactly where you get the "slow" GDDR3 from. It's GDDR3 yes, but that line of cards had a very high memory bus width, which compensated for lower bus width GDDR5 from the red team. The GTX 285 in fact had a 512-bit memory bus, which is the equivalent of a 256-bit memory bus using GDDR5 (which is most of the cards these days). The 448-bit mem bus on the GTX 260 is a bit lower, but that's around the same as a 224-bit mem bus today. Hell, the memory speed on that card is closer to a GTX 660 or 660Ti than anything.

But the problem once again is its lack of DirectX 11 compatibility. As slow as OBS multiplatform is coming along, it is written in the DX11 api as a base, compared to current OBS' DX10.1 API (which was at my personal feedback, I will add), and as such, if OpenGL doesn't work on older cards like that (and I am not sure it will) when OBS multiplatform becomes plain old OBS, those cards will become worthless, just like how that guy can't get OBS to launch right now because his card is DX9 and doesn't have the DX10 framework.

A GTX260 is what I was using previously, and it has MAJOR memory speed issues as far as OBS is concerned. I had to upgrade my GPU (to the 6870 I'm using now) as memory copies and conversions were taking one to two orders of magnitude longer than they should, resulting in massive framerate issues when streaming (even 2D games). The GTX 2## all show the same behaviour, and it was narrowed down by the Devs to be the memory setup they are using.

The RAM chips in question may be fine on a component level, but however nVidia was accessing them during the 200 generation specifically was causing severe problems.
