Question / Help Nvdia GPU can be used for live streaming correct? cant capture display

hello guys,

so ive gone into Nvidia control panel on laptop, selected Obs to run on Nvidia Gpu to test livestream capability. When i select my display inside OBS, it doesnt capture it, black screen, Ive gotten it to work on the stock GPU for screen capture but its maxing out my stock GPU, i am under the understanding that the Nvidia card can be used for livestreaming purposes. i have a nvidia 960m gpu inside my gaming laptop.

Ive gone into game capture/settings/capture specific window/ chosen my app that i have MAXIMIZED in my display, it doesnt go "full screen" as its not a game, its a stock trading platform. still a black screen . OBS log attached

ok so even youtube streaming you cant use an Nvidia gpu, i though it was just Display capture mode and not streaming

Those are two different kinds of things.

There are several kinds of capture: game (application), window and display. Which kind you can use on a laptop with two GPUs depends on which GPU OBS is running on.

There are also multiple types of output: local recording, streaming, etc.

The restriction on what types of capture you can run, based on using a laptop with two GPUs, has nothing to do with what kind of output you are trying to achieve.

Your log shows you are trying to do display capture:

12:01:11.478: - source: 'Display Capture' (monitor_capture)

This will not work while OBS is running on the Nvidia card:

12:01:10.348: Loading up D3D11 on adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M (0)

It does not matter whether you are trying to stream to youtube, record to a file, or do anything else-- display capture on that machine will not function unless OBS is set to run on the Intel GPU.
