Question / Help Number of audio channels supported

I use a MOTU 828 MKII for audio I/O.
I can have 10 individual channels of audio (this was a recording interface for studio)
When setting up devices in OBS I can see the devices listed for Desktop Audio Devices Screenshot 2019-02-20 09.54.29.png
You can see its selectable for Mix/Aux audio device (in this case #2) Screenshot 2019-02-20 09.58.12.png
When I activate a source that I KNOW is using that device, I can hear the audio coming from the speaker.. OBS does not hear it. The meters don't move. Nothing gets recorded ( a test recording was silent on this channel but other sources on other channels were audible)
I have activated sources attach to other channels and all that audio comes through fine and gets recorded.

Is there a way to get this to work? Most current log (today) attached.

Thanks

S~

I have ASIO in my recording rig, so I'm aware of its capabilites here. I am not certain all the titles I am using will be compatible with ASIO, relutant to mess up everything else thats is working jsut for this.

The audio and the channel assignments work everywhere else, except OBS, without ASIO support.

RE: GIT HUB... Do I have to compile tis? I've never understood exactly how GIT HUB works... so many extra bits up there? I'm not a coder , don't really know what to do with this.

If I take the audio source that isn't getting recorded and (virtually) move it to the device that is passing audio (MOTU 3-4, VA/SRA) then OBS captures the data just fine. While this works, it means I have to re-assign an already configured program and readjust values every time I want to record, and then back -to use in the proper fashion. Come to think of it though... OBS only LISTS "MOTU Analog 5-6", not "TS/DISCORD MOTU 5-6". OBS only lists the "proper" name of the device(s) from Under the dropdowns for Desktop Audio Device and Desktop Audio Device 2. As if it doesn't see ( in the case) TS MOTU Analog 5-6

OBS doesn't have a way to select which channels of a multichannel device it sees, at least not by itself. It's possible your driver is exposing parts of that, but the only way I know of to get control over which channels you use in OBS is with OBS-ASIO.

Im slowly trying to understand that. In the Audio section under Desktop Audio Device, OBS correctly lists the devices from my MOTU, named properly. (MAIN GAME, VA/SRA, TS/DISCORD)

If I change Desktop Audio Device 2 to TS/DISCORD MOTU Analog 5-6, OBS captures the source I was trying to get to work. However this is at the expense of other sources that were on VA/SRA Analog MOTU 3-4 - those apps no longer work.

It looks like OBS can only use 2 devices, Stuff that gets populated on the Mic/Auxilliary Audio Device 2 and Mic/Auxilliary Audio Device 3 dont work. At least here.

OK... so I installed the OBS ASIO. I still cannot get OB to listen to TS?DISCORD channel without knocking something else off.
I thought that if I moved the Mic input to the new ASIO panel, that would free up something.

Here's what I have to have:
- MIC
- VoiceAttack/SimracingApps
- MAIN GAME AUDIO
- TS/DISCORD

I can get Mic, Main game, and VA/SRA working. As soon as I add the next "channel" that wont work.
For the channels to work, they have to show up in DESKTOP AUDIO DEVICE.

SO, thinking there was a resource conflict.. I DISABLED all audio devices. under settings/audio
I am nw creating SOURCES unser a scene. Only 1 source shows up. The first one I create, the subsequent sources don't list a slider.

Why is this so complicated...

Well this is going nowhere.

To use ASIO I have to create a source, as ASIO doesn't come up under SETTINGS/AUDIO - devices. That will mean I would have to create these sources for 40 or 50 scenes and in several dozen projects now. That seems a bit rediculous if you ask me.

Using ASIO, this is what I've found:
- In order to make changes, add a ASIO source and the SEE the channel, you have to restart OBS.
- When you increase the number of audio channels, an number of meter will show up under the ASIO channel, but despite assigning to different source, or muting entirely, the meters all display just one source.

Well..

After pulling out what little hair I have left, I may be able to report some "success"... Its still going to be an insane amount of updating to scenes and projects. In order to get this to work, In each and every scene you have to create 3 Output capture sources, and if you want MIC captured, you have to create an Input Capture Source.

I've updated 1 project, created an AUDIO SOURCE Group and copied that to the 8 or 9 scenes in this project. Not sure what will happen to audio when I transition between scenes. It may work fine, then again I may be back to square 1.

I guess I'll have to run a steam test. If sucessful, update all projects, scenes, and probably profiles too.

i'll probably expose asio as an available global source but this will be in my fork; it's not possible with regular obs
