Seriously Frustrated.

Either I am making this very difficult or it is difficult and I am in way over my head.

The objective...make screen capture videos, upload them to youtube. They are not streaming. Local recordings, 3-5mins would be my guess, maybe from time to time 1 that could be a bit longer but not normal.

Audio works great.
Video quality is absolute rubbish.

Have you tried using the custom buffer option and setting the buffer size to "0"? Doing that should disable any bitrate limitations when using crf=x or qp=x for encoding.

Yes, have followed that, have spent hours tweeking all settings. Nothing improves it. Was hoping someone would see an obvious correction.

What I have to do to clean it up is zoom in on the edit scene feature, which removes the ability to see my entire window.

Your preset is medium. That is too high of a compression value for your CPU. Try using "superfast" with "1000" bitrate and "0" custom buffer size. It will create a larger filesize, but it should impact your system much less in return, and the video should look all right afterward.

Will try that, initially the video quality is better, will try to make a completed project and report back.
