Bug Report [Note: Solved in 19+] Possible issue with the Windows 10 Creators update

I have the same issue after installing the Creators Update. Seems like the anniversary update all over again, but disabling preview does not help unlike with that issue.

At 1440p and max settings, csgo renders at ~45 FPS while obs is open, ~60 FPS while OBS is on a monitor capture rather than game capture, and over 120 while OBS is closed. [edit: 120 is low for my config, but I was watching F1 simultaneously while testing. Closing that stream helped a little but the issue still remained]

I lowered settings to 720p minimum and it goes back up to 250 with OBS open, if that helps.

[I'm using OBS Studio 18.0.1 with a 1440p canvas resolution, i7-4790K + GTX 1080 and the latest drivers. windows game DVR, game mode, etc is all disabled.]

[sidenote: the new game mode does not appear to affect fps for csgo, obs aside.]

edit: OBS lowers Rainbow 6 Siege's benchmark average by about 10%, but this is nothing out of the ordinary.

I installed the windows 10 creators update yesterday and I tried to stream today and my framerate in-game suddenly tanked from 120 fps to 30-50 fps as soon as I hook the game to the stream. I streamed just fine yesterday at 120 fps in-game before I installed the windows 10 update and its the only thing which has changed on my computer since. This is with the OBS classic also.

So there is something in that windows 10 creators update which obs doesnt like :(

Sapiens, I've updated all drivers, DDU and reinstalled latest drivers for my 1070. The problem is best described as a FPS lock when I use game capture rather than monitor capture.

Using monitor capture gives me 144FPS in game (linked to monitor) and using game capture instantly tanks this to 60FPS.

I've disabled all the new game capture nonsense in windows 10 but problem persists.

EDIT -

Some more info. If I use a scene that doesn't have monitor capture enabled at all then the FPS tank down to about 70. Adding in the monitor capture as a source and enabling it brings my fps back up to 144 even if you cannot see the monitor capture itself.

Also have this problem....

Gonna use Rocket League as my example.
Only rocket league = 200fps
rocket league + obs clean install = 200 fps
rocket league + obs game capture preview = 75 fps
rocket league + closed obs = 100 fps
restart rocket league = 200 fps

Seems to be something with the hooking method since the WIndows 10 creators update.

Tried reinstalls on both my nvidia drivers and obs. Gonna try this clean gpu install as well.

Edit:
Tried the clean install of my Nvidia drivers and no difference. Still the same issue.

specs:
nvidia 980m
i7 4720HQ

Also to be clear I use a 2 pc streaming setup. So this pc only runs a obs fullscreen preview on my virtual screen that belongs to the capture card.

edit 2: Just ended up doing a rollback on windows 10. Couldn't find a fix

I have the same issue in dx9 games. Natural Selection 2, CS:GO
https://gist.github.com/anonymous/d336072660fc539979b0035e24b55a27

NS2 goes form 150-200fps to 40fps or less.
CS:GO does the same.
But DX11 on Overwatch and Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be better now than pre-creator update for me.

16:36:45.201: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] attempting to hook fullscreen process: NS2.exe
16:36:45.203: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] using helper (compatibility hook)

16:39:21.742: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] d3d11 shared texture capture successful
16:39:21.752: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] shared texture capture successful
16:40:27.451: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] capture window no longer exists, terminating capture
16:40:27.451: [game-capture: 'GameCapture'] capture stopped

Ive got fresh drivers and OBS, the problem is consistent across Studio and classic.
However Nvidia Shadowplay doesn't have any issue in dx9 games.

I had a lot of problems with Creators Update. While i was streaming, a simple desktop notification was rising the CPU usage to 100%.

The solution was to make a clean install of Windows 10 with Creators Update. It seems a bug or a big Windows 10 problem for who comes from the Anniversary Update with certain hardware configurations.

I have exactly the same problem though I just built my gaming pc a few days ago so the update already was already installed. Looks like I got to find a way to uninstall the update manually

I just wanted to comment that I too have MAJOR problems with OBS Studio after the creators update.

Basically, every game is having a "stutter" problem while OBS is open with lower than normal FPS

For example even a minor game like Mark of the Ninja frequently drops to 30-40fps with OBS open while using a GTX 1080

It "may" be a NVIDIA related graphics card issue in relation to the Windows Creators Update as there has been loads of reports of problems even with the newest drivers across multiple games.

well i have RX 480 and dont have that hard fps drops - looks like some Nvidia users have probs now -> we have to wait for OBS & Nvidia to patch it

@tristanwc DONT downgrade your Windows -> wait for patches

After the update my font size is big as hell on 1080p or on a 4k Monitor. Also i need to increase my Mic volume up to +6dB that someone can hear me.

wafebreaker - u can calibrate ur fontsize in gpu-driver and windows
mic driver - yeah if windows reinstall itself (like after creators) the audio-drivers needs some hands so work properly

I created account just to +1. I have this issue also and is driving me crazy. I cannot find solution.

My setup is i7 6700k gtx1070 32GB 3000mhz RAM 512gb nvme ssd. I stream League of Legends to Twitch. As League is not demanding, I was able to get up to 400 fps on very high settings while streaming as a proof of concept, but locked my frame rate to my 144hz monitor. It never dips below 144. Until....I updated to windows 10 Creators Update.

I have had this issue since updating. I am seeing fps drops and wildly flucuating FPS in general while OBS is open, not even streaming. FPS stutters and flucuates between 70 and 90 and is unplayable (more the stutter than anyathing). I have turned off all the new "game modes", DVR, Game Bar etc. I have disabled full screen optimization on every exe. I have reinstalled clean gpu drivers I am even having this issue in windowed and borderless. When I close OBS, everything goes back to normal. CPU utilization is approx 10% and GPU utilization is approx 20%. Clock speeds on both CPU and GPU are normal. I reverted to previous windows build and all is well again but I would like to be on creators update.

I only created an account here to report the same issues. Game-Capturing is not working well. In RocketLeague for example, i play at 250 FPS max and I can stream very well.

Since i installed the creators update, my FPS drop down to 40, even if the stream is not running. Just when i open OBS, my game is lagging and its unplayable for me. I tried the workaround but i still have the issues.

My system: GTX 1080, i7 6700k @ 4,6 Ghz. It was all working fine before the update.
