Notable delay when switching PTZ cameras -

Hello, my name is Tyler. I am fairly new to broadcasting as I only picked it up to help a local business with some streaming of tournaments they hold.

I installed several dedicated outlets along with Cat5 jacks - installed the cameras [2] of them and got the networking figured out.

But what I have yet to figure out; when switching between two different cameras providing different angles of the same event, within' OBS there is a black screen and say a... 2? second delay with a black screen before the video is back.

I am using them imported as a VLC stream via... RTP? I am not near it but it sounds correct.

So I suppose my question is; should I be importing them as a different source? Is it the network causing the delay? I do not have any RS232 cables between them they are strictly on the network; it is a 200Mbs connection that is no where near limited and the laptop being uses is no where near a bottleneck for this application.

I'd like to think I'm a few settings away from getting rid of this issue; I just don't know what they are. I am unexperienced enough to where I don't even know the correct questions to be asking.

To be clear, there is no delay on them as I view them both in VLC. The only delay is when I change media sources within' OBS where I am greeted with a black screen for several seconds before it "catches it" .

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Which source to use? depends on what the cameras support. Higher compression codecs (like h.265 vs H.264) require more CPU to decompress... Security cameras are NOT known for low-latency.

There is a setting in OBS (not sure about VLC) to close source when not in use. I'd start with making sure that is NOT in place for the cameras (ie, you don't want the system to initialize and start processing stream with you select a given camera, you want OBS already processing it, and immediately switch. This of course requires a computer capable of rendering the incoming streams simultaneously.

and when asking for support help, don't ignore the pinned post in this forum regarding an OBS log from a Recording/Streaming session
