Question / Help Not Understanding Basics [Bitrate, Resolution, etc.]

I am new to streaming and I am also not very familiar with computer language overall.
I have read a few guides and I was able to get my stream working but it was in a crazy (4:3 I think) ratio.
I came up with a way to fix it by messing around with my resolution.
The game I am trying to stream is Guild Wars 2.
I used the Stream Settings Estimator but I'm not sure if my choice for graphics card is correct or not because what mine is was not listed as an option. My graphics card is: ATI Radeon HD 5570. I think... Once again I'm not sure that I am doing any of this correctly.
Now that my screen appears as I would like it to on my stream, I attempted to use a "lock to front" program that would place the pop-out chat from Twitch.tv over my screen.
After doing this, everything broke. Almost every time I try to stream now, my OBS client crashes.

I also don't understand how to change bitrate... or if I can. I googled what it was and how to change it and I'm still lost because when I used the log analyzer,

I got the error:

Bad resolution / FPS / bitrate combination
The combination of settings you are using will likely lead to a low quality stream with artifacting and other problems. Consider either raising your bitrate or lowering your resolution / FPS (qval: 0.017)

I don't know how to do anything that it is telling me to do and I haven't been able to figure it out via my usual internet searching.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Edit: I figured out why it was blank and took out that part of my message.
Edit: I am also having trouble now because online I read the recommended resolution would be 1280 x 720. I set my scene for that resolution, but when I go into game and start streaming, it is barely showing any of the game. Does my game also need to be running at that resolution? If so, that stops me from being able to use window mode. The resolution I usually use is 1920 x 1080, but I also can't get that to show up properly.

First, if you don't know what settings to use, best bet is to try the estimator. It's perfectly understandable, the numbers seem confusing at first.

You generally want your base resolution to match either your monitor resolution.
