Question / Help (NOT Obs): Mac Microphone noisy; any idea why?

This is not an issue with OBS; I'm hoping that someone here has run into this, and knows the answer.

I get occasional noise, like static, or "robot voice" on my mic. I have this using both a USB mic (I've had 3 different ones do this now), and the built-in mic. It is most common when I have been silent for a while, and goes away after a short time, but it makes for very annoying noise.

Has anyone else seen this/know what can be done about it?
 
If it's not an OBS issue, I'm not sure why you think it's appropriate to ask about it here. This isn't a general tech support forum, this is a forum for OBS.
 
I did not see an "Off Topic" section on this forum.
The people that come here are the people most likely to have run into this issue (microphone pickup, and recording/streaming) of all the places/forums that I know of.
I thought this was the best place I know of to get an answer, and did not know of any second choice.
