Question / Help No video input with Startech video capture device

We are working to get livestream up and running for our church in light of the current COVID-19 situation and restrictions on larger public gatherings.

We had the StarTech USB2HDCAP video capture device lying around and I thought I would be able to use it to convert the HDMI feed off of our video camera to USB into the computer and into OBS. I've added a video capture device, go to Properties and choose it from the dropdown menu, but there's just a black screen. I feel like I must be missing something as it seems fairly straightforward. Any thoughts what I'm missing?

Try going to your camera app and seeing what it sees. If you can see the video source after switching to the USB device, it is most likely an OBS issue. If you see black like in OBS, it is most likely not OBS's fault.

Similar issue, except using the UVCHDCAP (USBC / USB3 version). Using the capture app, I can see the video. But when switching to OBS, it lists the device, but nothing is displayed.

Video device drivers are exclusive. When you tried to access it in OBS, was the capture app still running?

Does OBS have permission to access cameras and microphones?

Does this device show up in other apps that use cameras, like Skype?

Have tried it both ways, but no, the first time I ran OBS the capture app was not running.
Win10 lists it under camera privacy settings (see screen shot).
Yes, it shows up in Skype.
