No sound from local video source

My scene has 2 elements—a local video of a music performance, and my webcam. I want to play the video and occasionally pause it to make comments. When I play it, there is no sound, but the sound is actually being recorded, along with my comments. What am I missing?

At the Audio Mixer: click the cog wheel icon and go to Advanced Audio Properties. There Audio Monitoring for the video source probably is set to Monitor Off. If you want to have it in your recording and hear it through your headphones, select Monitor and Output.

Output = sound going to your stream and/or recording
Monitor = sound for the OBS Operator, you behind your laptop

When using both speakers and a microphone at the same time and place, be careful to avoid feedback loops. That's why Monitor Off isn't a strange default value.
