I am trying to get OBS set up to do some streaming and bought an IP camera,
I got it working by setting it up to point the camera at my old TV and fed the headphone output into my external USB sound card.
This streamed well and I was able to adjust the sound to get good lips sync.
But now I have been trying to get it set up to view and pick up the sound where I want to use it.
I can stream the video and I can see the audio being picked up but OBS doesn't even see the built in mic on my laptop.
I looked at the log and here is the relevant part of the log

I can record from the onboard mike with audacity and play mp3s and youtube videos and so on so it's got to be something to do with OBS as far as I can see.
Any idea what I can check/install/uninstall/test to resolve this please?

I have the same problem here. Only different is that 2 days ago, the program did work fine (no problem with the sound). I have use this program for few months now, and I have like it. Never problems until just 2 days ago. 15th of February, I did use the program to record from Skype and the result was fine (with sound). Two days later (17th. of February), I made another record, but notice there wasn't any sound, so I opened the program to find out why, and saw all the audio devices have got lost from the program and I cannot select any device from the drop-down list. I opened the log file and found out that the program (somehow), don't find pulse audio input and output!!!. I did open the log from 16th February and it show the same. It seem that there isn't any log earlier, but I know the program did work fine 15th of February. Here is the last log-file and I have mark the part where the program don't find the Pulse-Audio.

Well yes, it is a flatpak problem since we are using the flatpak version but it was triggered after a update. I don't know exactly what, my guess is the kernel.

Just out of the ???? blue or something, today when I opened the program this morning (like I do every morning to see if any changes), the audio is there already again!!!! What happened.... I don't know. There was 3 updates yesterday, I don't if one of them did made the changes.
These updates was yesterday:
ppp 2.4.7-2+2ubuntu1.1 to 2.4.7-2+2ubuntu1.2
git-man 1:2.25.0-1 ppa0 ubuntu18.04.1 to 1:2.25.1-1 ppa0 ubuntu18.04.1
git 1:2.25.0-1 ppa0 ubuntu18.04.1 to 1:2.25.1-1 ppa0 ubuntu18.04.1
and one update the day before>
nodejs 12.16.0-1nodesource1 to 12.16.1-1nodesource1
one of these must have trigger that OBS got the audio back, at least I didn't do anything but it is back....
now the log file have the pulse audio back
