No Qt platform plugin error

After months of working perfectly fine, OBS suddenly doesn't work anymore, instead only giving an error message which reads: "This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

However, reinstalling OBS with the latest version did nothing, and neither did restarting my computer. I don't know what to do here.

There is also no log file in AppData for me to upload; it's as if the program doesn't even run at all to make an %APPDATA% folder and a log file.

The OBS uninstaller may be leaving files behind that are corrupt, and being used by the new installation. Things you can try:

1) rename the folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\obs-studio to something else, and try a new install
2) Use an uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller Free Edition

delete the contents of %AppData%\obs-studio then try and reinstall OBS

if you are unsure how to do that, press Windows+R then type %AppData%\obs-studio and press enter. anything that is in there. delete.

Repeat: "There is no such folder on my computer" :) I think OBS is not installed)))

I deleted the program from one disk partition, installed it in another. (I have 1 disk) - OBS Not working. The same error appears and the folder \AppData\Roaming\obs-studio does not appear

You clearly don't understand Windows operating system and it's hidden folders. You should do a Windows course first then come back, read all the OBS Help and finally post an actual issue if you have any.
%appdata% is not a path, it's a way to get into this hidden path. Do the course, please.

The other way to see it is that you just came here to troll.

make sure windows is updated. if it continues to be an issue, try and install an older version of OBS, follow the link on the downloads page for previous versions. i would start with 27 if 28 continues to fail.

I got a similar problem. I noticed that while obs-28 is being installed, the install program extracted some files that includes "Qt6" in file name while old obs verion is "Qt5".So if you're running obs on an outdated system, such as Windows 8/8.1 or old version of Windows 10, use obs-27.2.4, not obs-28. And a small suggestion, you'd better check your Windows 10 build version and update it with Windows 10 Update Assistant. It seemed you're using a really old version :)
(I'm sorry about my poor English if my reply is hard to understand.)

I have Windows 10. I had the same issue with latest OBS version.
After uninstalling latest version, there were no more files in APPDATA or PROGRAM FILES. Yet issue persisted.
So I used version 27.2.4 [LINK]
Now OBS ,alongwith my primary utility , virtual camera is running without a hitch and no additional QT installations were required.

So I had this issue today with OBS 30 after update.
I was using it in portable mode with a shortcut that points to obs64.exe --portable
I stopped having this problem when I used bat file instead of shortcut.
Created BAT file next to obs64.exe
obs64.exe --portable

I am experienced the same thing but it has been solved. What happened to me was a hidden obs-studio folder.
