Question / Help No HDMI audio Issue - Avermedia Live Gamer HD c985

Hello everyone!

I've been scouring the internet for the past week trying to find a fix to my issue. I understand at this point its very likely not an OBS issue specifically but Ive been using it for a long time and I know you guys have been developing it with a lot of testing and knowledge of the c985.

So after working fine the night before, the next morning my C985 Live gamer HD stopped capturing audio from the HDMI input and from my PS4. Video works perfectly fine still, just audio is totally dead. And I know the card is fine because I've even removed the card from my PC and put it into another PC and confirmed the HDMI audio capture is working normally.

As best I can tell I think I'm missing the "Avermedia HD" playback device in windows (7)? Honestly I don't recall ever having one, but a lot of my research has led to fixes related to it, and I just don't have one. (Including in the disconnected and disabled devices) Is the Avermedia HD playback device required for OBS to capture HDMI audio from the c985?

I've switched to OBS Studio from classic, updated the c985's firmware, drivers & software to the latest non-beta versions, clean installs of realtek sound and AMD graphics and HD audio drivers and Ive dropped a tech support request with Avermedia and I'm waiting to hear back.

Here's my current OBS log:

I also attached a pic of my obs screen running with a single video capture device audio bar since it seemed unusual to me. Just in case it helps.

Thanks in advance for the answer to my question and any troubleshooting ideas I can attempt at this point!

It doesn't matter with Avermedia HD on playback if you capture from the console.
Try to check if select Output desktop audio (DirectSound) already…

Thanks for the reply! I see- well that's good to know. As for the (DirectSound) idea, I'm afraid I've already tried that and it didn't work unfortunately. At this point, I'm considering a clean install of windows maybe the only way to fix this.

So i did a full clean install of Windows 7 in an attempt to fix this issue and I was surprised it didn't fix my problem. It's exactly same. It lets me choose HDMI as the audio option but its like its muted.

Headset connected to your console's controller?
Thats a good guess since I currently have it set to put all audio through the headset just so I can play with sound, when not streaming via the PC but no thats not it either I'm afraid.

However, today I miraculously got my audio working... for a while. It was fine after a reboot and everything. Created a restore point in windows in case the sound was ever lost again. Later tonight it was gone again. Restore point failed and will no load even though it told me it was created successfully.

For the short time it worked it happened by total accident, but I was trying to run windows 10 (which I upgraded to and did not fix the issue either) but I was trying to run with minimal services. After a reboot it killed the log in/password prompt for windows 10. Had to hard reset 3 times to get windows repair to come up and boot into safe mode and I fully reinabled all services. And rebooted out of safemode- when it booted back up I magically had sound again. Rebooted, still had sound. Put the ps4 into sleep mode and came back to it later this evening no longer working again.

At this point im guessing its some AMD HDMI audio service or something that is overriding the Avermedia Live Gamer HD's sound- but that's all I got left as far as guesses. Ive troubleshooted this thing to death over a week and a half.

Man, sadly i got the same problem. 2 Problems to be Honest

This is my setup: PS4 - AverMedia - PC
- I got my PS4 connected pass through AverMedia and back to my TV Screen
And now my TV doesn't have the game sound
- Got my AverMedia connected to PC through USB.
No sound in there either.
