Question / Help No Audio

I've come back here several times with audio issues and only one was solved. It was me being dumb and using Windows Media Player, where VLC let me hear audio that was there the whole time. But that's not always the case. I'm fed up with no answers and I really don't know what to do anymore. I'm using VLC player and getting no audio after recording from my Roxio GameCap. To be fair, I really hate this capture card and am assuming it's the cards fault, but I can't be sure. The video comes out fine but the audio is dead silent. I'm at a loss, and I feel like hurting myself for not testing it before recording for three hours straight.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I'm using OBS MP version 0.12.3, 64-bit, on Windows 10.

Start the Roxio Software and make sure the Audio and Video is working there.
Then close the Roxio Software.
Now open OBS and you should get sound there.

I wish this was the fix. I did actually do that before starting. Before doing that OBS won't show the audio levels for the Roxio capture. Afterwards it will.

Bump. I decided to give up with the capture card for a while. Took a break, decided to come back and record something on the PC. While the card may or may not be having issues, I've discovered now that my mp4 files are STILL coming out with no audio from OBS. No capture card involved, just screen capture. Up to date version and everything.

Now I did have headphones on, but I can't imagine that had anything to do with it.

Are you using multiple audio tracks?

I'm not 100% sure how to let you know if that's the case. In the mixer, I only have my desktop audio displayed (which is showing the levels when audio is playing). In settings, only desktop audio is at default, desktop audio 2 and all the rest are disabled. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it installed this way lol.

OK can you open up one of your mp4 files in VLC, pause it and then go to Tools Codec information and post a screen shot of that tab. Could you also post an up to date log so we can see your current configuration.

Ok well you have one audio track in your video output so there is some audio in there :-) Can you upload screenshots of the following config pages:

Edit, Advanced Audio Properties
Settings, Audio
Settings Output, Recording (or just Settings Output if you have it in Simple mode)

I hadn't noticed! I'll turn that on as soon as I can. That being said, would that be the problem? I record my voice in audacity, separate from any gameplay. It's the game's mp4 file which does not produce any sound. If you like, I could upload the file unlisted/private and link you?

Yeah if there is no device enabled then you won't get any audio. This has happened to me in the past when I have plugged all my USB devices back in and they are on different ports, you end up with your microphone input not assigned to mic/aux 1 and have no commentary :-(

I'm assuming I need one plugged in, but at the moment I can't select anything beyond disabled? That being said, I did a quick test run before plugging it in and I got audio off of my desktop, which did not happen before. Here is the current log:

I'm not sure what would cause it to not record any basic audio before, but then suddenly record it this time?
