No Audio

Help! I am a first-time user of this software. I am attaching a sony hi-8 video cam via a dazzle video capture device. I get video just fine but have been trying to get audio for the last three days. I have spent hours researching the problem, trying all of the suggested remedies, etc. with no success. I am running windows 10. I am ready to throw all of this gear into a flaming fire-pit! Can anyone help before I completely lose control?

The audio mixer is shown but the bars are not active. I have four options for the audio input: default, dv100 line, mic, and speakers. I have tried all of them while the cam corder tape is running with no change. The mic option has the bars moving to max with high pitched squealing ... feedback??? Otherwise, there is no activity with the other input options. Video comes through fine. This is the second computer I have tried this on. The first computer was a 32 bit windows 10 and the current one I am trying is a 64 bit windows 10. Both give me the same results.
