OK, i don't know whether this is obvious, but my scene doesnt include any audio source, but it's been broadcasting the mic input. how do i set this so if there is no audio source in the scene, it doesnt broadcast?

ok, never mind, i wasn't aware that anything listed in the Mixer is broadcast regardless of whether it's listed in the Sources list. muted Mic in Mixer, job done.

Muting is the quick solution, the long solution is to remove both devices from the Settings menu and add both of them as Audio Input and Audio output sources instead.

This gives you the control of which devices are active in which scene, for example this allows you to run your VR Headset and Microphone devices in one scene, and your regular headphones and microphone in another.

Just to second DEDRICK's suggestion above: this is always the way I set up OBS. I just prefer to always explicitly add sources to scenes, so that the only things that show in the mixer are also shown in the sources pane. Makes troubleshooting audio much easier.
