Question / Help No Audio from mp4 Media source

I am a beginner with OBS so please excuse if this is a basic and possibly stupid question..
I have started to use OBS to make videos of myself performing songs...
I recorded an .mp4 file with a video capture source and a single audio input source... Accidentally I recorded the audio to track 6 only (I had been experimenting with tracks). The output file plays fine on Media Player (it sees the audio on track 1) but there is no audio when I upload it to my phone to play it using the default Android video player. I presumed this has something to do with the track 6 selection?
So I thought I could use it as an input media source in OBS and record to a new file and move the audio to all tracks 1 to 6.....but when I use the file as a source I get video only..... there is no audio from the input file on OBS which created it !! ..not a squeak... Why is this?
Thanks for any help

OBS also does not allow selecting alternate audio tracks in media playback.
You can likely use a video editor like DaVinci Resolve to import the video, so long as you didn't record directly to MP4 in OBS (NEVER EVER DO THAT, FOR A BUNCH OF REASONS.. there's a reason it pops up an orange warning when you try).
You might also be able to use command-line FFMPEG to reassign the audio track, but it'll require a good bit of reading to figure out how to remap the audio stream.

Thanks for your reply. I found instructions on this forum to use FFMPEG to reassign the audio track, also I have another reply suggesting I strip out the audio to a .mp3 file using VLC and then overlay it on the video....I will try these....

Can I ask, when you state 'OBS does not allow selecting alternate audio tracks in media playback', which audio track is the default for playback? I have other recordings which DO playback audio in OBS, I would like to know which audio track is selected for playback...

Thanks so much for your help.

Track 1 will always be guaranteed to play by default for any player. If track 1 doesn't exist, then each player will handle things its own way (some expect track 1 and give up, some will play the first available track, etc).

Thanks yes I have just run some tests by recording 6 seperate files with a single track selected...OBS uses track 1 for playback, nothing from tracks 2-6 on playback....
Interesting Windows Media player flips the tracks : when I select track 1 it chooses OBS track 6 etc.. VLC is true to the track numbers in OBS..

Thanks for your help...I'm only a beginner at this stuff...

I'm having the same issue. I am coming into computer line in from my mixer. OBS I have audio input capture set to line in and I'm getting signal and can hear it when Monitor and output are selected. After I make a recording it sounds fine on windows media player, but when I upload it to FB some people can hear it some people can't.

I have one MOV file of a choir singing that works fine and I can monitor it through the media source and it plays the audio through my external speakers.. I created this file back in June. I created another media file today. Settings appear to be the same but there is no audio from the MOV file. Can it be that files used in an older version of OBS carried the audio and the new version does not?
