Newbie stumbles into streaming

Just installed OBS: working on capturing video as well as audio, and am still at black screen while capturing, but, suddenly I get notice that my practice video clips are setup as a private collection on YoutTube (which I had been using as practice for capture). My video capture examples were very bland, but I hope no-one gets embarrassed by such apparently automatic YouTube action. I don't recall stipulating that I wanted to stream, let alone on YouTube. Still, it showed I was capturing video as well as sound. From half an hour's use I am astonished at what outstanding software OBS is. Well done! It's brilliant.

Recognize that OBS allows you to record locally (make sure you have enough disk throughput to accommodate). Also, you can record locally at a different resolution/bitrate/etc than streaming (if desired) though doing so does mean encoding 2 separate videos.
Now, a Content Delivery Network (YouTube, Twitch, FaceBook, etc) can (usually does) have different stream setting requirements, and then how the video is re-encoded, stored, made available, lag for all of the preceding, will vary and has nothing to do with OBS. Which means in addition to learning streaming software, you also need to learn the nuances of your streaming platform of choice (YouTube in your case)
Enjoy and good luck with streaming
