Question / Help Newbie resolution question

I have been trying to understand how to set up video screen capture resolution. My laptop monitor is 1920 x 1080. (I like that resolution and if I make it any smaller, I can't see or click to OK CANCEL APPLY buttons at the bottom of the Setting screen.)

All I want to do is to record the left half of my screen. I started with 960x1080, but there is a large black band at the bottom of the video and not all of the vertical screen area is shown - about 25% of the bottom of the screen is cut off. I am trying to record a demonstration where I need to show the entire vertical height of the screen.

Curiously, no matter how much I increase vertical resolution, I always have the black bar at the bottom and bottom of the screen is cut off. Even if I set the base resolution to 1920x1080, I have black bars on the bottom and on the right hand side.

I would appreciate some advice on how to record the left half of my screen with nothing cut off and no black bars. Again, if I reduce my screen resolution, then I cannot use OBS, since I cannot see or select the settings buttons.

Thanks.

Not really sure what to tell you, it should work just fine. Maybe you can show us a screenshot of your whole monitor, showing the obs window too.
