Question / Help Newbie issue: My laptop's mix/aux isn't picking up my piano anymore

I've searched all over for an answer and am beginning to think there isn't one. I was streaming live to YouTube no problem, playing piano and singing (for church) just using the laptop's mic/aux. I decided to use OBS and Castr.io and can't get proper audio from the piano now. Its choppy at best and often you just can't hear it.
Is it a settings issue or is it just a case of adding more software means having to also add an audio interface?
 
If you happen to come across this post I found a fix. Believe it or not, all I did was plug my Apple earphones into the aux. Problem solved. I don't know how but that doesn't bother me :D As long as the problem is solved.
