I am an audio expert, but no computer expert; hence, I need some assistance here please.
My kids are going to be recording gaming videos (not streaming) and I've run into some difficulty in recording external audio (microphone) along with the game audio.
I followed the directions for setting up OBS on their PC laptop. Their microphone set up is as follows:
dynamic mic (no phantom power) -> XLR -> USB powered mixer -> PC
I'm thinking I either setup the PC incorrectly in terms of selecting an audio source for recording, OR I've set something up incorrectly within the audio menu of OBS. Right now, they can only record audio from the game itself, receiving no (or really low output) from external audio (microphone).
Is OBS able to capture an external audio source? I'd appreciate any ideas on how to troubleshoot my connections and set up within OBS and, if possible, with their PC. Thank you in advance for any assistance you might provide.
