Question / Help New to the software and need to optimize for recording but don't know how.

I downloaded OBS here recently and Idk what is the best settings for recording with my laptop. Is there any advice that can be given?

Use Tools->Auto Configuration Wizard to get basic settings suited to your hardware and start fine-tuning them by experimenting with recording/streaming.
