New to streaming - need a little help

Hi Community!

I'm new here and need some assistance. I use a PC (laptop), and it is connected to a 34 inch LG monitor (second screen). I want to start streaming (Twitch) and I have just about everything set up to begin. One problem, though, it's displaying the correct screen, but I will be playing on a console that is hooked up to HDMI 2 output. When switching over to HDMI 2 to begin playing, the feed captures HDMI 1 (my desktop), not HDMI 2 (the game). Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks!

You need a hdmi capture device to capture the video of a console. The hdmi connectors on your laptop are for output only. They can only be used to connect to monitors to output images created by your PC. They cannot read a hdmi signal that's coming in from a console.

I suspect original poster plugged their console into HDMI Port 2 on monitor.
OBS on a computer (in this case using monitor's HDMI port #1) has NO access to HDMI Port 2 signal on the monitor. As koala noted, you need to take HDMI out of console into capture card (not monitor) into PC so that OBS can see it
And then there are a couple of ways to then display that video source ... but not my area, so if you need help with that be sure to ask [I suspect there are ways that provide a clean image for you to see AND allows OBS the cleanest image capture... and other ways that degrade teh image unnecessarily... but I'm only guessing
