New to OBS

Hello, I am a new OBS user and today I attempted to pause my recording and it didn't work. The issue was "Recordings can not be paused if the recording quality is set to "same as stream" ". If someone knows how to fix this I would be very thankful

Go into Settings->Output, and under Recording set the encoder to something other than 'same as stream'.

Though, beware as I think that means extra rendering workload right?
If I understand correctly (and I could easily be wrong), you could record separate from stream (as I do) if you system has the resources to do so. Otherwise, just not you have to stop streaming/recording together, and use a video editor later on the recorded file.
