New to OBS on Mac: how do I capture using AverMedia Live Gamer 2.1 device?

I have connected the device, and connected it to my MacBook Pro with a FireWire 4 cable. The passthrough works fine as long as the device is powered, but I can't get anything but a black preview in OBS Studio.

I understand there's a plugin for use with OBS Studio on Mac, but I couldn't find it on the AverMedia support page for the Live Gamer 2.1. From an internet search, I was able to find a plugin to download from AverMedia, but I suspect it is for another device because I can't get it working with OBS Studio.

I might just be making a boneheaded mistake, because as I mentioned, I'm new to using OBS on Mac. I have used it on PC before with the built-in game capture, so I'm a bit familiar with the software, just not on Mac.

A quick look at that leads me to believe that the plugin I installed won't work with the GC553G2 capture device. There are several mentions of a different capture device and eventually a line that says that GC515 isn't installed.

I have a support ticket with AverMedia, but an email reply said they will reply within 2-3 business days, so I thought I'd try my luck here. I posted on the AverMedia subreddit and got downvoted and ignored.

UPDATE: I was able to get this working by uninstalling the plugin I installed. The GC553G2 does not require a plugin. OBS recognizes it in the Add Capture Device window, provided there is not a plugin for the wrong capture device installed. The capture device in OBS needs to be configured before it can be used, though, so once I set the resolution, framerate and format, it started working fine.
