Question / Help New subject: Changing Nvidia SLI focus to primary display!?

Hi guys!

I've just got myself an Elgato Game Capture HD that I'm going to hook up to my "server" PC and run OBS on. I'm wondering though, if a gfx-card is required? I'm currently accessing this PC via RDP, without monitor, mouse or keyboard connected. There isnt ANY graphics card in the computer, not even something basic VGA on the motherboard.

Will it work, or do I need to get a gfx-card installed?

Regards,

Lush

Re: Running OBS on a computer WITHOUT GPU on a dual PC setup

It does require a graphics device, because compositing is designed to be done by hardware graphics.

Re: Running OBS on a computer WITHOUT GPU on a dual PC setup

Thanks for you answer! I hooked up a semi-old HD6850, so I got that sorted now... But I've run into something else that I just can't get my head around.

My setup is as follows:

My main gaming computer is running SLI (2x670GTX). I have two 1080p monitors (one 120hz and one 60hz). Since I got an Elgato Game Capture HD I am cloning the main monitor - to display the game. But somehow I can't enable my second display (the 60hz one) when I'm in clone mode. If I do, it will get the "focus" from SLI and the performance on my main monitor is shit.

How the hell do I tell the software to stop putting my secondary monitor as focus and actually giving all 3D-power to the main monitor?

Anyone? It's driving me bonkers here.

Er, backing up...why are you capturing your monitor with the Elgato? Do you have a second computer that you are using to do encoding?

Yes, correct. I've got HDMI (cloned from main monitor) running into Elgato (which is connected to a second PC thats only running OBS for streaming). Since my main monitor is 120hz, the cloned image to the Elgato is 60hz (due to limitations in both HDMI and the Elgato I would guess). When ONLY those two monitors are "active" in the Nvidia control panel, all is well. However, if I try to enable my 2nd monitor (for spotify, stream interaction etc etc) THAT monitor will get the 3D acceleration from SLI leaving my main monitor feeling very sad.

I'm starting to think its actually a limitation in the Nvidia software, but how can that be?

Edit: Added very instructive image (please forgive the swedish language).

Uhm, yeah, that's not really the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though. :) I've got the 120hz/60hz issue under control, but I'm having problems with the second (extended) screen. I've attached a picture in the post above showing off some of my crazy good paint skills. Maybe that can illustrate it a bit better :)

Ah, sorry, I relied before you posted your picture. I see what you're trying to do now, but I'm not sure how to do it...sorry :(

Alright. I guess I have to hope for someone else running the same setup reading this. I can't be alone, can I? :)

It's really wierd. It's as if its impossible to get focus assigned to a monitor part of a clone setup. Since there is no problems with having different refresh rates on individual monitors in a clone setup - I can't see why it shouldn't allow for one of those screens to be the "preferred 3D-accelerated screen" too... I mean, why on earth would I want some other random, non-primary display to get all the juice from SLI? Makes no sense...

Hmm... maybe I should update the header of this post somehow to get the attention to this issue.

Again, anyone with a similar setup that can shed some light on my problem?

Hugs and kisses.
