Question / Help New PC/Internet will handle it?

Hello guys,

I`ll share with you my actual situation and other 2 scenarios that I`ve draw to get a better and smoth stream.

TODAY

I stream (at least try to) with my notebook:

Dell Inspiron 14R

8Gb RAM

Video card: GeForce GT750M

Processor: i7-4500U 1.8Ghz (2.8 Ghz Turbo speed)

Upload speed: 1mb (yeah, very bad)

My settings in OBS:

Max Bitrate/Buffer Size: 500

FPS: 30

When I start streaming with these settings, my game and the stream are OK. But when I add webcam and other features to my scene and open the chrome to put some music, the game gets really laggy.

· What I want for my stream:

I want to stream smoothly in 720p / 60 fps or 1020p / 30 fps with webcam and other features in my scene (what I`m listening, New follower announce, Donations…).

I`ll stream games like League of Legends, Smite and rarely some MMORPG`s (ArcheAge almost). The main game is Smite.

NEW SCENARIO 1

Desktop PC

8Gb RAM (with a possibility to upgrade it to 16Gb depending on how it would make my stream smoother)

Video card: GeForce GTX-770 2Gb

Processor: AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz

Upload speed: 20MB (with a possibility to upgrade to 30MB, but I think the difference I`ll pay to it wouldn’t equal to the difference in the stream).

NEW SCENARIO 2

Notebook

16Gb RAM (with a possibility to downgrade it to 8Gb depending on how it would make my stream less smooth)

Video card: GeForce GTX-970M 3Gb

Processor: i7-4810 MQ 2.8 Ghz (3.8Ghz Turbo Speed)

Upload speed: 20MB (with a possibility to upgrade to 30MB, but I think the difference I`ll pay to it wouldn’t equal to the difference in the stream).

Regarding my personal needs, forgetting the stream, the notebook would go much better. I don`t have my own room and sometimes I can`t be online because my brother wants to sleep. So, with a notebook I have the possibility to go to another room. With a desktop, I wouldn`t have that freedom and my stream time would be really dependent on his wishes.

If I have to share any more information with you guys to help you help me, just let me know.

Thanks!

for 720p streaming you neet at a minimum 2.5k upload, you will need to be streaming at 240/480P at 1mb either that or upgrade your internet?
Plus your pc cant handle gaming+streaming on those specs, it might be able to handle 480P streaming but not gaming at once.

Hi frosty,

Thanks for the answer.
Regarding the specs of the PC, even the new PC or the notebook that I've put in scenario 1 and 2 wont handle gaming + streaming?

the laptop will but you will obviously need an upgraded internet, also from my experience today nvidia's encoder for OBS is terrible...

not atm unfortunately, I heard its due to the settings OBS uses but im not sure but then again people say using shadowplay to stream to twitch the quality is perfect.

to be quite honest with you ... that notebook is pretty garbage yes it says "i7" yet its an hyperthreaded dualcore

so not really what you want for streaming

720p30 with games which wont take up as much cpu might be possible thats about it

then theres your upload... not really enough anyway for 720p more like 540p

scenario 1 should work just fine
