Example of my issue I just uploaded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpX1Mw1bKqo
Hardware:
CPU: Skylake i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz
Mobo: Asus Rog Maximus VIII Hero
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32gb DDR4 @ 2800
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti (using my GTX 590 until the 980 is back from DOA being RMA'd.)
SSD: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit
I'm hoping this is strictly a GPU issue, but I'm slightly scared, as half of my PC arrived DOA, and I'm just about to have it all fixed, and now this stuttering/hiccup/freezing/etc is happening.
This issue is only seen in the OBS preview window, recordings, and on stream. I can run LoL at 350-400 FPS solid, and this issue still occurs. Running Dying Light in 60+ FPS, and the recording above shows the issue as well. This happens in every game I try to play. The recordings also display a slightly higher gamma than what it should be, and I'm not sure why. I don't think this issue occurs on stream.
My settings in OBS are:
Encoding
x264 encoding, CBR and CBR padding checked. 2500 bitrate, AAC 44.1kHz, 96 bitrate audio and stereo channel.
Broadcast Settings
Set to the nearest ingest(?) server on twitch, which would be Seattle. Extensive testing with the teamliquid app, as well as xsplit and other methods shows this is the best connection for me. I have a 200/10mb/s line through CableOne. OBS is set to 15 second delay, everything else on this page is default.
Video
1920x1080, resolution downscale to 1280x720, bilinear 30fps.
Advanced
Multithreaded optimizations checked, process priority normal, scene buffer 700. Allow modifier hotkeys checked. x264 CPU preset set to veryfast, although I've tested with fast and haven't notice a difference. Encoding profile main, and 2 keyframe interval. Use CFR is checked. Everything else default.
From my understanding, OBS is almost entirely CPU intensive, which has me worried my CPU might be potentially damaged, as it should not display these issues, I'd think. After all, this rig should have the potential to run 1440p for Star Citizen on max, once I get that 980 in the mail. I'm really hoping the lag in OBS is just my old graphics card, but from what I've read, that shouldn't be the case?
Edit: I should mention that I don't drop frames in the first few minutes of recording/streaming. In the OBS client itself, it will eventually start dropping frames after a while. If I'm streaming, I very rarely drop frames on twitch's end, and dashboard always shows excellent.
