Error message from the popup that's supposed to update it:

Update failed: Couldn't load manifest file

I'm using the portable version because otherwise I can't stream and record at the same time.

I have the same issue.

I use portable mode as I often image my PC and storing the settings on a separate drive means I don't lose them. Once was enough.

I'm having the same issue, but I'm not using Portable mode; I'm just using OBS Studio. Should I create a new thread for this?
