Question / Help Need help with recording quality

Evening fellas.

First time on a forum ever, never spoke on one in my life so I'll try & add as much info as I can.

Basically, I can play a game & the graphics are "alright". However when I look back at the gameplay I've recorded and the quality is shocking compared. I don't Stream, just record.

I don't have the best rig ever, I'm not a hard-core gamer. I have a family, I work & do martial arts ECT so I don't need beef about my shoddy rig, again I'm a cheapskate (I'll base my graphics card/processor information below in the next paragraph) I know I have a cheap rig & you'll see how bad it is underneath but for £80 it does alright! (Looking at buying a Nvidea GTX 1060 & a Ryzen 5 1600 8GB after Christmas, unless you guys can recommend better for a price range of about £500 for both, or even a great site for cheap components) as family come first this time of year. The above graphics card & processor might even fix this issue once installed.

Currently I'm running:-
System model: HP Pro 3300 Series MT
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6700 series (0x68BA)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz, 3300 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor
RAM: 8GB

The above is Latin too me, I get help/mocked at work with my computer as I know fef all. Haha!

OBS 22.0.2 (64-bit windows) settings:-
Downscale filter: Bicubic (Sharpened scaling, 16 samples)
Common FPS values: 30
Recording Format: flv
Rescale Output: 1280x1024
Rate Control: CBR
Bitrate: 2000
CPU Usage Preset: ultrafast
Encoder: x264
Process priority: Above Normal
Renderer: Direct3D 11

And feel free to add me guys on Steam if you want, I'm not mega competitive but I'm decent at games & I enjoy a laugh most of all! Peace & thank you for any advice. Feel free to ask if you need more information about my rig. Oh, and thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives too give me some advice, your awesome!

Not sure what else you'd expect from 2000 CBR ultrafast. You're telling your computer to make a very small file and to spend almost no time making it. The result will be poor quality.

Just want too say first off, thank you for your reply Narcogen (Sweet handle by the way)

So is it my OBS settings? Anything I can change on that? Or is it my computer? Again, I stated that I know next too nothing about these things.

Cheers brother.

First, run the auto configuration wizard in the Tools menu. It will ask you about what you're trying to do and will suggest some settings.

Don't record using CBR rate control, that's primarily for streaming. Use CRF which sets a quality level-- lower numbers mean higher quality and larger file sizes.

The sweet spot for quality vs CPU usage on preset is generally veryfast. If your computer can do that, leave it there. If not, set it higher until you reach a good balance of quality and performance.

Nailed it!

The auto configuration wizard sorted it all out. Now it's just as crisp as my actual gameplay.

Thank you very much Narcogen, your help has been very much appreciated. If there's anything I can help you out with in return, possibly a follow on your Youtube? or a shout out on another platform give me a shout. Do unto others as the good book says!

Enjoy your Christmas & a Happy New Year! (Y) all the best, truly.

More love, always.
