Question / Help Need help with my setup please

I'm looking to do a med/high quality 720p@30fps stream. I'm pretty familiar with OBS in general but the main thing i have trouble with is Quality Balance setting along with Max Bitrate and Buffer Size. I've heard so many different stories about what Max Bitrate and Buffer Size should be set to that it confuses me. I've heard to set your Buffer Size to the same as Max Bitrate, i've also heard to set Buffer Size to double your Max Bitrate. i'm running a connection of 50Mbps Down and 5Mbps Up. If someone could please help me out with this i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

if you want a great quality 10 stream on game's that have some action you want to either use cbr with around 4600kbps or use a very variable bitrate at like 4000 and 12000 bufsize. i also would suggest using aac 96 when using the variable bitrate and the cpu preset should be on veryfast.

ok so under "Custom x264 Encoder Settings" what should i type? Haven't got that good with OBS yet lol

if you're using the latest build you should have an option for cbr. there is no need to write anything there.

I have the latest version. Under my Advanced Tab i have "Use CFR" "Use CBR" and "Custom x264 Encoder Settings"

You stated earlier "use cbr with around 4600kbps or use a very variable bitrate at like 4000 and 12000 bufsize" Are u saying to set Max Bitrate and Buffer Size to 4600? and if i wanted a variable setup to use 4000 Max Bitrate and 12000 Buffer Size?

if you check cbr then all that matter is what you type as the maxrate.

if you don't wanna go with a constant bitrate (cbr) then you're right uncheck that and "4000 Max Bitrate and 12000 Buffer Size" is the way.

ok thank you very much :) also what do you recommend to keep cpu usage to a minimum while also pulling off a good looking 720p stream(if possible so just curious about it)??

use the latest test 64 bit version of obs viewtopic.php?f=5&t=68 (has some encoder performance optimizations).
also try only having game capture on the scene and if necessary lower the in game graphics. furthermore reducing the fps to 25 would help.

Ok Hilalpro apparently my upload speed isn't 5Mbps our ISP claims it is but i only get a true 3Mbps. What do you recommend as Max Bitrate and Buffer Size now for a quality 10 720p stream?

quality 10 won't look that great streaming tomb reader from your line then. try 2464/7392 quality 8 or 7.
