Mods, please move if this is in the wrong place. I'll be using with OBS windows.
I have 2 separate situations where I want to record. I don't have an unlimited budget but I also like to buy once;cry once so I want to have something that will serve us for several years and not be antiquated soon. That is why I am looking for wisdom from you who have done similar things.
1. We have an auditorium where I would like to record (I can't stream due to poor internet in our very rural location but I can record then upload). The AV booth is about 85' from the stage and podium. I would like to mount a camera up about 15' above the floor of the AV booth to get what is on stage whether people are standing or not. The camera will be about 15-20' from the computer. We have a professional soundboard for the audio. Since the camera will be so high we won't be able to make adjustments by hand so I'm thinking I would like a PTZ with optical zoom of at least 10x or 12x. That optical zoom would give a field of view of approximately 10-12' wide if the calculator I used was correct and that would work well. I believe some cameras like PTZOptics has a plugin to operate the camera via OBS plugins. Does logitech or other cameras PTZ models work with OBS for controlling the PTZ function? I would like to know should I look at HDMI, USB, SDI, or IP cams? I'm thinking I'm on the edge distance wise for USB.
2. I would like to do recording of classrooms. Since Covid19 we did go online by using some DSLR cameras. It was a kludge but it got us through. Now we would like to actually equip the classrooms over the Summer to record 4 classrooms. I have spare computers we can put in each classroom as capture agents running OBS and using something like a Logitec C922 webcam mounted from the ceiling but I don't know if that is the way to go or not? It would be a lot cheaper than PTZ cams as I don't see the benefit of a PTZ in the classroom setting (our classrooms are rather small). I have an audio system already for each class that I can get good audio signal from.
If you were in my shoes, what would you suggest for camera types, brands, and even models for each of my 2 situations?
Any help is much appreciated.
Jeff
