My opinion about OBS.

English isn't ny native, so sorry if there's some typos\mistakes\whatever.

This software is exactly (well, there's some "flaws" for me) what i've waiting for.
That's what i like about it
1. Amazingly fast boot up (not like "XSplit" which takes forever to start it).
2. Easy and responsible GUI (not like "XSplit" again, which uses some weird GUI based on HTML and Flash, lol)
3. Easy to setup your stream (well, this one isnt obvious for "noobs", it's easier to setup your stream in "XSplit, but it's my opinion, so i think it's still easy)
4. "Unzip and go" (i hate all that installers and stuff, so i hope there always will be "no-installer" version.

And now about that "flaws" (well, this isn't even a flaws, but it will be nice if you add this to the OBS)
1. In "FFSplit" there's a "Open folder button" which you can "customize" via config to open any URL.
So my first suggestion: customizable button which can open any url i want (for dashboard editing etc)
2. "XSplit" can "manipulate" with flash and animation (some scrolling text on screen etc)
My second suggestion: please "teach" obs to handle animations (.gif etc) and flash

But even if you won't implement this suggestions i want to say
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AWESOME S/W, now i can delete this slowass Xsplit from my PC.

Hey, thanks for your kind words. Don't worry, I'll always have a simple binary zip version available, I prefer a binary zip option for apps as well (though I will have an installer version soon for people who prefer that). As for the GUI, the GUI in general is fairly basic, just the common controls windows provides, so it's nothing special really, but I kind of prefer it to be that way, clean and simple. That's fairly subjective though I suppose.

For the button thing - I heard someone else suggest this and I didn't understand at the time, but I think I understand now. Being able to input your channel dashboard URL or something and be able to simply click a button and go there while streaming? Makes sense, seems like it would be quite a useful thing to have, would be faster and easier than having to manually open a browser each time and type in the link. So sure, I'll add it as an option. I'll have to figure out how to make some more space in the main window.. I don't want to have too much stuff in the main window because I'd like to keep things clean and simple, but I'll try to think of something.

Gif animations are definitely something I need to get in.

Now on to the flash thing - if you mean render flash objects and such onto the stream, I'll see what I can do about making an optional flash plugin at some point later down the line after more essential things have been finished. I want to emphasize that I want this to definitely be totally optional for users - flash is a CPU hog. I personally wouldn't want to use flash for this sort of thing, despite the fact that it's a very common graphical system. CPU resources are already pretty tight as it is. I would prefer people make their own plugins and use the built in 3D renderer for anything fancy instead if possible, as that's going to be the most optimal.

and by the way, your english is perfect

Yeah, that's exactly what i've meant.
But one thing about this button - it should be channel specific of course :)

...render flash objects and such onto the stream

Well, you're right, flash "eats" a lot of CPU, but i think it'll be nice to have an option to add stuff like timers\scrolling tet\static text.

Oh, and one more.
When you add a scene or video source OBS asking you to enter a name. It'll be awesome to have an option to make OBS name the items automatically, like "Scene 1...n" and "Source 1...j"

Thanks for your answer :3

Actually what I'd like to be able to do for the naming is not have to use a popup message box, but rather make it so you can name it in the actual list box instead.. which I'm going to try to do in the future. The popup is a bit annoying

Yeah, that's gonna be an awesome solution for that problem. As long as it have some default value ;)

Oh, and one more request.
I think you should add cropping feature.

There's my example why we need it.

1. I'm streaming some NES games via Nestopia 1.40 and using "Window capture, Inner window" option.
2. But even using "inner window" option OBS capturing Nestopia's status bar, to hide it i should disable it.
But i want to see this status bar and don;t want my viewers to see it! So we need to crop a little bit of pixels at bottom of capturing zone.

Sorry for bothering you with all that stuff :D

You can use this little trick:
1. Click Test stream to see preview.
2. Click Edit Scene
3. Click on window in preview for red border around window
4. Resize this rectangle so that menu hide.
5. Profit!

Yeah, you're right, but as you said - it's a "trick" :D
XSplit have this function, so why OBS should not? :D

There is a cropping feature, enable region capture. Unless I'm confused about what you're doing.

Yeah, there is, but only in "Screen region" mode., but if i'm using "WIndow capture" mode - i can't do anything to the region, except what zerocul said (that trick with border)

wait, region capture should work fine for both monitor capture and window capture.. is there something wrong with it when using it with window capture?

Gooooooood, i'm soooo stupid :D
Sorry, it works fine! :D
It just wasnt obvious to realize how it works actually.
That "select region" button made me think it's kinda like "screen region" in xsplit, but it works as cropping tool for other options as well :D

Sorry for bothering you with a stupid questions like that :D
Thanks for advice :D

haha, no problem. :)

I suppose that the name may have been confusing. Perhaps I should rename it to say "sub-region" instead to prevent confusion.

Well the issue I have with "Cannot find window" is that it's not something that viewers should see. It's something that only the streamer should see. So I'll try to find a way to do that
