Monitor goes to you.
Output goes to your audience, via the Tracks.

i have OBS 27 but i'm gonna use this when I update
That part didn't change. And yes, you should update.

BUT!!! Make sure to back up everything before you do! 27 is the last version to use the outdated graphics framework. Updating *that*, breaks almost *every* plugin. So save all of their settings (screenshot if you have to), re-download the new version of the ones you want to keep, update OBS, DO NOT START IT YET!!!, install the new plugins, THEN start OBS, and put your settings back in.

Some plugins are obsolete now, because their functionality is (mostly) baked into OBS itself. Websockets, for one example. But the details have also changed, so you'll need to update anything else that talks to it too.

That update was not handled very well, and it permanently broke a lot of rigs without warning. Here's your warning. Don't use it to not update; use it to know HOW to update, and do it.

way too detailed
Learn to understand technical stuff. Or find someone local who can do it for you. 'Cause streaming necessarily is.

If it really was just a single purpose, then it could all be abstracted away and you could "push button, get stream". But only that one specific type of stream with that exact setup, style, distribution platform, etc. Anything else at all, would put you right back to where we are now. And the chances of the devs guessing your exact needs are pretty much zero, let alone making the button that "just does that".

The entire reason that OBS is so popular is *because* it's so versatile, for free. It can be made to do almost anything with live media, and we all share ideas, kinda like Legos. But that exact same versatility means that you have to know the *details* of what you're *actually* doing under the hood, and make it do that yourself.
