Multiple copies of the same display capture

Hi all,

I'm new to OBS. I want to record my screen while having some notes (not captured) on the left side. While I was trying to do this by adding a Crop/Pad filter on the left side, I somehow ended up with this mess (see picture). How do I get rid of these multiple copies of the same display capture?

I have tried:
- deleting Display Capture from Sources and adding it back
- closing OBS and deleting everything in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\obs-studio
- creating a new scene
- restarting computer
- deleting all Effect Filters (there are none)
- resetting Defaults on Display Capture

Cheers,
Alain

You see in the OBS preview what you capture: your screen with OBS on it. Since OBS shows what it captures, you see OBS in OBS and so on. The same effect as if you're having 2 mirrors facing each other.

To avoid this, OBS must not be on the screen you capture. If you don't have a second monitor where you move the OBS screen, you need to minimize OBS, or you can exclude OBS from screen capture with settings->General->Hide OBS windows from screen capture.

Activate the system tray icon of OBS to see the OBS status and control start/stop recording, and you can define hotkeys (Settings->Hotkeys) to control OBS while it is minimized.

"can exclude OBS from screen capture with settings->General->Hide OBS windows from screen capture."

THAT PART!!! That was the best advice. Thanks @koala
