multichannel audio not possible with OBS

Hello everyone.
I've tried everything to record a video with sound in more than 2 channels and it's impossible. I have of course selected 4.0 audio channels. I enabled tracks 1 and 2 in the settings (output / recording), selected the mkv format and the AAC or FLAC encoder, selected the right connections in the audio mixer, and the right tracks in the advanced audio properties. I tried every combination in the global audio devices. Nothing works. It's hopeless. I asked ChatGPT for help, but he couldn't find a solution, except to try with an older version of OBS, which didn't work either.

You should first check your recording what it actually contains. May be a multichannel audio track is actually being written but not recognized by your player or postprocessing software. MediaInfo and ffmpeg (actually: ffprobe.exe) can help. This way you see if there are multichannel audio tracks in the video file or not.
If there are some in the video, check your postprocessing software if it's able to recognize and process it.
The OBS logfile will also tell what kind of audio it created.

I open my videos in Reaper, and it recognizes multichannel files perfectly. OBS creates videos with multichannel audio, the problem is that these tracks are silent. OBS records sound on the first two channels, but nothing on the following ones.

Not sure if you read this but I have no issues with multi-channel. I will say that my set-up is fully discrete from the source all the way through to my surround sound processor.
