Question / Help Muffled sound

After doing a clean install of Winodws 8 I had to set up OBS again and now all the sound is muffled.

Any idea whats causing the crappy sound quality? It's fine on my end, but no matter what I change in OBS, the stream sound is still terrible.

You may want to lower that audio bitrate to 160 max, twitch doesn't really support higher audio bitrates very well currently.

Also, I could probably tell you what it is, either speaker configuration, or some sound card effect settings that can sometimes do this. After you installed a new OS, it probably changed the settings around for your audio device with new drivers. If possible, check your vendor-specific audio control panel settings (if it has a control pane, otherwise I'm not entirely sure). For example, right now your audio is set to 5.1 speaker output, where you were previously using stereo possibly.

Actually I'm betting that's what it is, it probably changed the speaker configuration, which causes it to sound different. If you want the most ideal output for streaming, I'd probably try to see if the speaker configuration in windows is at fault, try stereo and see if it sounds better for example. Though if you are legitimately using a 5.1 speaker setup then that might not be what you want to do, in which case I'm not entirely sure what to suggest, as the stream has to downmix 5.1 to stereo.

Switching to stereo fixed it, but I use the 5.1 setup since I have a subwoofer but only two speakers. I have the other speakers turned off in the software, so it really shouldn't be doing that...is it something with windows 8?

edit: Well I don't really understand what happened but after switching to stereo and back to 5.1, the problem remains fixed. Thanks for the help :p
