Hey

i got a decent to bad PC, and i record locally videos every day, and stream every now and then.
I planned to make this thread to get help and help others in maxing out their FPS / quality.

i will be editing this first post with examples as i get em better for my PC.

first my network.
it's SONERA 24/1 (modem says 19000/1000)

now that's not optimum, but it is the best i can have, as in Finland we dont have over 1mbit upload.

then my PC:
3DMark Vantage: 4146p (4082gpu/4349cpu)
http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/4445205
Intel DualCore e6750 @ 2,66GHz (OC'd to 2,88GHz)
someshitty DDR2 @ 361MHz (x1) 4x1Gb
Ati Radeon HD5570 OC'd to MAX with Catalyst OC program
running windows 7 64bit.

(getting upgrade in january to 8Gb DDR3 1333 + OC'ing my cpu to 3-3,5GHz)

Games that i record:
Natural Selection 2 (1080p lowest of the low graphic settings) 20'ish FPS whitout streaming 10-15 with streaming
Starcraft 2 (1080p medium to high graphic settings) 60+ whitout 30+ with streaming

Streaming:
i rarely stream my playing as it gives me much higher ping as it stucks my upload almost completely.

Qualitys i run:

games:
2000/4000 Q8
720p 28FPS

Stream:
500/4000 Q8
480p 24FPS

examples:

Comments:
FPS drop in NS2 is huge, tho the game ain't ready yet.
but the sound is not laggy at all, so i wonder what is dropping the FPS

i seem to have laggy frames 90-99%
wha who how ?

Conclusions:
-using Game Capture in NS2 increases playable FPS by 2-5 and reduces frames that "lag" from 99%->35%

You dont have nearly enough upload to support those bitrates.
When i stream my bitrate is 1000, when i record (NS2 & SC2) my bitrate is obviously much higher so i can record much better quality.

I'm gonna try today to stream at bitrate of 500, just to check how it works with that and if my latency stays low.

Do you have Aero enabled?
Aero is disabled when OBS opens.

That too --v
huh?

Oh i´m sorry i misunderstood you anyway. :P
But yea for livestreaming your bitrates are too high, for recording you can go even higher without worry.
Have you tried using GameCapture instead of software capture yet? Note that it only works in Fulllscreen mode with NS2 right now.

no worries :3

i went lower on stream 500/4000
updated the stream link, (just streamed and tested)
also updated the log file.

going higher in local recording just does bad things for my performance, that 27min play of NS2 was like 8-15fps.

XeiZ, does NS2 have their own game capture? i gotta try that if i can get few more fps from that, however i think i cannot use any overlay stuff while recording tho.

i got game capture working (does not work in fullscreen windowed) and indeed it raised my fps for a solid 2-5FPS.

then i lowered the resolution in game to 720p and lowered the resolution in OBS to 720p and selected to capture the whole screen. and it only captured like 1/4 of the screen. (upper left corner).

it seems that you need to keep the base resolution at 1080p to capture the whole screen.
testing today more.

(uploading test videos for software capture / game capture)

When viewing the properties of your Game Capture source (right click on Game Capture, hit properties), make sure to check the "Stretch image to screen" option.

Also, game capture should definitely be working in fullscreen, that's pretty much what it's designed for... Maybe NS2 has problems, but SC2 should 100% be working with Game Capture.

i'll be testing SC2 today.

-updated the first post, just found out that using fullscreen game capture lowers my "laggin frames" from 99% -> 35%

Like i said, NS2 only gets hooked in FULLSCREEN mode , not in fullscreen WINDOWED. It is known! :p

i tested to play F.E.A.R

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgO6d4ff ... e=youtu.be

4 hours of blinking material.
i tested it outside the buildings and no blinking, then played for 4 hours then looked at the material.

any idea why?
(removed mumble overlay) -not helping
(vsync on/off) -not helping
lowered the bitrates (helped on FPS but nothing else)

argh.

EDIT:
using game capture instead of software capture......
AAAARRRGGHH WHY I DID NOT REMEMBERED THIS EARLIERRR :3
