Question / Help Mp4 vs flv. Massive issues with mp4

Hi guys.

I've been playing with settings for a while trying to improve my quality settings without dropping frames. I had oba telling me it was happy and no dropped frames. However watching the video back is horrible the frame rate seems as low as 1 frame per second.

Eventually I realised I could save as flv and the files were fine. Is this to be expected. I'm not committed to mp4 files so its not a major issue.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's a limitation of the mp4 container format.

We always recommend flv over it due to the inherent problems encountered in mp4.

Might be expected, depends on the player and the bitrate. I've saved 7 hour captures at 20Mb/s for 1080p60 as .mp4 in the past and didn't have any issues playing them back. I'd say if you use sensible settings .mp4 files saved by OBS should work fine, assuming it saved correctly in the first place. I have seen what you described occur when playing back .mp4 files saved at ridiculously high bitrates.

The video data inside FLV and MP4 is identical. Your video player is likely the problem, not the actual file.
