I bought an ESYNIC VHS To DVD Audio Video Converter USB and hooked it up to my VHS player. As it only came with driver software for Windows, I downloaded OBS as I was told it would work with no problem, but it doesn't recognize my player. Did I hook it up wrong (seems pretty simple); is it not compatible with my OS, or is there some other step I'm missing? TIA

Looked this device up online and can only find Windows support listed. Depending on how this captures video, it might work on macOS.
What did you do to try adding the source to OBS? If it's acting as a webcam, you should add a video capture source and select the device from the drop-down.
I recommend going back to whoever told you it'd work and asking them for a guide. If you get it working, please report back on how in case anyone else comes here with the same issue.
