Question / Help Monitor Capture - blackscreen on Windows 8?

I'd like to use Monitor Capture to stream so viewers can see everything besides just the game, but when I try to preview even just my desktop with monitor cap all I see is a blackscreen. When I used to stream on 7, these same settings didn't have any problems so is this exclusive to win8? Are there any common solutions to this problem? Not sure what extra information I need to provide, ask away and I will try my best to post any pertinent details.

Monitor capture isn't recommended for nvidia laptops, it seems to be a bit unstable, use at your own risk. Having said that, typically a black screen on laptops is indicative of using the incorrect adapter. Also, monitor capture cannot be used with games running in fullscreen mode regardless of operating system, only game capture can capture games in that state.
