Monitor and Output = NO OUTPUT

This is an issue I've never experienced. When livestreaming an event, I used Monitor and Output under audio sources. Turns out, there was no audio in the recording or the stream. When switching back to "Monitor off" the sound returns to the stream and recording. Never did I once select "Monitor only (mute output)" - 100% sure.

Of course I checked to the stream on youtube, but to do that I turned off "monitor and output" momentarily and switched to "monitor off". That fixed the issue as I was watching the stream. I did hear the lack of audio momentarily because of the delay, but since it came back very soon i figured it was'nt anything serious.

I was streaming with a stream key to Restream. Was running version 34.0.1

Now the damage has been done and I have to talk with my client about why this happened. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks

Depending on your audio signal flows, it may have created a loop (monitor signal going to input), which OBS then tried to fix by muting that input. They've been tinkering with that functionality the last few versions, trying to get it right while responding to all possible edge cases - see the second bullet point on the release notes for the current version (which is 32.0.4, by the way, not sure what you mean by 34.0.1):
  • Fixed an issue in 32.0.3 with audio device lag due to new deduplication logic [pkviet]
If you can reproduce it, and it's not obviously creating such a loop, you should file a bug report with logs
